For forty-five years Hobart Gang Show has been providing young people with opportunities to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork through the performing arts. Along the way, they also have a lots of fun!

Hobart Gang Show is an annual theatrical production which is a training activity providing young people of Scouts and Girl Guides Tasmania with practical experience of performance and stagecraft. Involvement may be in singing, dancing/movement and speaking roles on stage. There are also opportunities to be involved in band or backstage. Many of the Gang have developed lifelong passions in areas related to the performing arts with some, as a direct result of their involvement with the show, going on to notable professional careers either on stage or in a backstage field.

The cast size varies but is normally between 30 and 50 cast members comprising of Scouts and Girl Guides typically between the ages of 11 and 26 years of age. The youth members are offered many opportunities within the show invironment. These opporunities include but are not limited to:

  • Taking part in developing and writing the show script

  • workshops in areas of interest such as tech crew or set building

  • learning theatrical knowledge and stagecraft skills through participation

  • the opportunities to direct and choreograph items and skits

  • Attain a Certificate II in Creative Industries

  • Country Shows allow performances across the state
